Clay Endearment IX “Love is a Space”

Small clay face is nestled in a blue heart.  Sculpture is in 3 pieces (head, heart and support piece) and intended to sit on a shelf or altar.

Clay Endearments are small sculptures for the altar or wall that speak to the heart in some way.  This work is hand sculpted and bisque fired, then sent through the intense process of raku where it is pulled blazing hot from an 1800 degree kiln, then smothered in combustibles.  Thermal shock creates cracks which are filled with carbon from the combustibles  Like our hearts these pieces survive more or less intact,  but with more depth and character from weathering the distress.
