Words About Dogs

Regarding guest dogs at Faerie Road Farm.

A farm is a closed system where the relationships amongst the animals and other elements is worked out for the greatest harmony.  We know your dog is awesome and understand you want to have him/her with you! However guest dogs often impact farm harmony, thus rules and guidelines must be followed to ensure a good experience for all.  If you can agree to abide by the following rules, we are glad to welcome your dog, and would like to know ahead of time that you are bringing him/her with you.

Dogs are not allowed in the house.  The house is currently occupied by cats and this is their safe space.  As well we do not want your dog eating the cat food, exploring the litter boxes or lounging on the furniture. The gated back yard is also a dog free zone.

Dogs must be supervised at all times.  Until we know how your dog will interface with the farm, they must be leashed.  We have no idea if your dog is socialized to cats, rabbits, chickens, ducks, sheep etc. Chasing any animal on the farm must be strongly discouraged/disciplined. Multiple warnings,  consistent lack of supervision or killing of any animal is grounds for ejection.

If you are unable to supervise/need to come in the house etc.  there are good options for securing dogs here, including places to put them on a line with shade and water and two locking kennels.

Guest dogs must be kept away from sheep areas and Livestock Guardian Dogs.  We do not want LGDs getting used to visiting canines being welcomed as friendly.  In an area that has coyotes (as well as bears and cougars) we need LGDs to be suspicious of every dog that comes onto the property for the safety of our stock.

There is a dog friendly sleeping space with its own entrance and plenty of great walks for dogs in the area.

RubyFox Retreat is a dog/pet free space unless your dog/pet can be kenneled in your vehicle.
