Camelids Plus ~Shearing With Ruby

I offer a gentle custom service with attention to detail, prompt communication and exceptional care of your animals and your fiber. I will be gentle with your animals, handle them with care and will talk you through the entire process to set you at ease.  In addition to shearing I offer flock management and education including toe trims and tooth filing, health and nutrition assessment,  and advice on general care and farm infrastructure.

I generally travel alone and ask owners to help or provide helpers to get the job done.  In some cases I can bring help for an additional fee.  For more information please see my prep and policies page linked above.

• Southern Oregon from the border to Corvalis along the 199 and the I-5 and including Brookings.
• Northern California from The SF Bay Area North including the Sacramento/Stockton area, Redding, Red Bluff and Siskiyou Cty along the I-5.
• Northern California Butte County, Chico, Oroville, Marysville, Grass Valley, Nevada City, Placerville
• Northern California Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino counties along the 101 and North to Crescent City.

K.Ruby Blume has attended the UC Davis shearing course in 2014 and 2015 and is a certified shearer.  She trained on alpacas with Steve Murray in 2017 and has been shearing them ever since.  Ruby’s focus is hobby farms, homesteads and pet flocks.  Alpacas and Llamas make up 80% of her clientele.  She has sheared flocks as large as 75 animals, though 1-15 is more typical.  Ruby also shears small numbers of sheep.

PRICING 2026-2027

  • Prices reflect industry wide standards for small flock shearing and assume you are within 45 minutes drive of another customer.
  • Prices can vary from these standards. Variances and the reasons for them will be clearly stated.
  • Payment is due at time of service via cash, venmo or check
  • Tipping is never required but always appreciated.  Thank you for the work.
  • Shearing is a skilled, custom service, that requires training, experience, specialty tools and back breaking labor.  A good shearer is worth the cost.

Base Price/Farm Call  $100 (OR)  $110 (CA)  This covers scheduling, drive time, fuel, set up, equipment purchase & maintenance and follow up for all jobs.
Minimums I generally ask a minimum of $175 for my Oregon customers and $200 for California customers.  I understand this is a hardship if you only have 1 to shear, so I’m somewhat flexible if you are close to another customer and 100% ready.

Stovepipe legs, boots or special haircuts $5 per animal

Yes, I shear the occasional dog.  I am not a dog groomer and I am not going to make the dog look pretty, this is a comfort cut.
I have to use a special cutter for dogs to prevent cuts and the owners must help restrain and in some cases muzzle.
Price range from $75 -125 depending on difficulty/time it takes
