A small standing sculpture with a pieceful austere face. The body is embellisghed with heart and “stained glass” window on the front, as well as flames and the words “open your heart.” On the back window panes are carved out and the inscription “let the spirits fly in and out” is barely legible beneath the raku distresses.
Clay Endearments are small sculptures for the altar or wall that speak to the heart in some way. This work is hand sculpted and bisque fired, then sent through the intense process of raku where it is pulled blazing hot from an 1800 degree kiln, then smothered in combustibles. Thermal shock creates cracks which are filled with carbon from the combustibles Like our hearts these pieces survive more or less intact, but with more depth and character from weathering the distress.
